Roger Olson (Oakmont) – Sailplanes and Soaring F= light

 <= /p>

What??  No Engin= e? To fly as the hawk and eagle has been mankind's dream for centuries. Modern sailplanes make soaring flight possible, and with them humans can fly highe= r, faster, and farther than the greatest of birds, using only an invisible for= ce of nature to stay aloft. Soaring offers a sense of freedom unique in sports= and for sheer beauty and grace, it is unsurpassed. Roger Olson (Oakmont) will be speaking from his experience in soaring about this fascinating aviation top= ic.

Capt. Arnold Tolbert - The Tuskegee Airmen (“Red Tails”)

The Tuskegee Airmen, also known as the “Red Tails”, is the name of a group of African-American military pilots who foug= ht in World War II – the first black servicemen to serve as military aviators = in the US armed forces. Despite racial discrimination both at home and abroad,= the all-black units were credited with great achievements and their successes helped pave the way for the eventual integration of the U.S. armed forces in 1948. Capt. Arnold Tolbert will be speaking about this famous group of airmen, the planes they flew, and their place in history. Tolbert first flew in the US Air For= ce, then with American Airlines for 21 years, and since 2008 he has served as t= he head of the Department of Aviation and Safety at Florida Memorial Universit= y.

Dwight Anderson (Tellidora<= /span>) – US Air Traffic Control

Have you ever wondered how all those airplanes in the sky keep from bumping into each other? Dwight Anderson (Telli= dora), a long-time pilot, and an air traffic controller for 20 years at both Chicago= and Minneapolis hubs, will explain how air traffic flows into and out of the ma= jor air hubs as well as at smaller airports. You’ll leave with a better understanding and appreciation of the US air traffic control system.
